He holds a first class Bachelor of Science degree with Zoology and Botany and Master of Science (in zoology) from University of Kerala. In 1970, he moved to Delhi and joined National Institute of Communicable diseases, Delhi. He completed his PhD in Medical microbiology in 1989 from University of Delhi, where he carried out Immunological Studies on the Role of Macrophages in Experimental Malaria. He retired as a Deputy Director from National Institute of Malaria Research (NIMR) in 2006 and worked as an ICMR Emeritus medical scientist from 2006 to 2011 in Malaria Parasite Bank, NIMR. He has a total research experience of 46 years in vector borne diseases such as malaria, Filariasis, and Leishmaniasis with expertise on Malaria Parasitology, in vitro cultivation of Malaria parasites, in vitro screening of antimalarials, handling and maintenance of non human plasmodia etc. His major contributions include establishment of Malaria Parasite Bank, a National resource at NIMR, New Delhi and a similar establishment at RMRC Andamans, University of Ahmadabad, Gujarat and Institute of Endemic diseases, Khartoum Sudan. He travelled extensively in India and abroad for providing training. He is a Life member and fellow of Indian Society for Malaria and Other communicable Diseases, Academy of Bio medical scientists and Indian Society of Parasitologists and published many papers in National and International journals.
